An oral cancer screening is a quick, painless exam where the dentist checks your mouth, tongue, throat, and neck for early signs of oral cancer, such as unusual sores, patches, or lumps. It is included as part of your routine dental exam, and it takes only a few minutes.
What we look for
During your regular checkup, we look and gently feel for anything out of the ordinary: sores that have not healed, red or white patches, lumps, or areas of tenderness. Most of the time everything is normal, and the check gives you peace of mind. If we do notice something worth a closer look, catching it early makes all the difference.

Between visits, let us know if you notice a sore that does not heal within two weeks, a lump, a rough or discolored patch, or ongoing trouble swallowing. These are usually harmless, but they are worth checking rather than waiting on.
